The opening is disorienting in the best way: a deep, almost black Turkish rose wrapped in saffron and a sharp burst of black pepper. There is nothing sweet about this rose. It is thorny, aromatic, and faintly dangerous - the rose you find in a gothic novel, not a Valentine's bouquet.
The heart is where the darkness deepens. Oud and patchouli intertwine beneath the rose, creating a rich, loamy earthiness - the scent of damp soil in an old walled garden at dusk. A thread of amber provides warmth without brightness, like candlelight in a room with no windows.
The dry-down leaves vanilla and musk on the skin - but not the vanilla of dessert perfumes. This is dark vanilla, smoky and resinous, more beeswax than cupcake. Black Petals lingers for hours, evolving continuously, never quite the same twice.
